Under industry codes registered by the eSafety Commissioner under the Online Safety Act 2021, porn sites, R18+ apps and games, and AI chatbots that can produce sexual content have had to check users' ages since 9 March 2026; self-declaration is not enough. Aylo responded by limiting Pornhub to safe-for-work content for Australians and restricting its other sites; since 7 October 2026 it has restored the full Pornhub site for iPhone and iPad users whose age Apple has confirmed. Breaching an eSafety direction to comply can bring civil penalties of up to A$49.5 million per breach.

Why is Pornhub blocked in Australia?

Instead of adding its own age checks, Aylo restricted its sites for Australians as the codes took effect: from Friday 6 March 2026 RedTube, YouPorn and Tube8 showed notices and stopped taking new registrations, and by 9 March Pornhub showed Australian visitors only safe-for-work content, with new registrations closed. Aylo said Australia was following the UK's approach, which it says does not protect minors. On 7 October 2026 Aylo said it would restore the full site for Australian iPhone and iPad users whose age Apple has confirmed; other visitors still see the safe-for-work version. Status is coded blocked because adult visitors on non-Apple devices have no way to reach the explicit site.
